Silver bullion coins Common Silver Eagle Coins

Any coin collector knows that his collection cannot be complete lacking the silver eagle coin. The set of American Silver eagle coins is special because they are the largest in size and are made using the purest legal silver in the history of the United States.

There are a number of other aspects linked with silver eagle coins that add to their value. First of all their size is such that they are easily portable. Hence you can carry your collection around with you.

Secondly American silver eagle coins have universal liquidity which makes them valuable all around the world. Furthermore it has a government guaranteed status which acts as another plus point.

The value of silver eagle coins is high but how do you compare them with other collectible coins. Their worth differs in that these coins are not antique.

On the contrary they are quite a young series as they have only been in circulation for twenty years.

Individuals interested in adding silver eagle coins to their collections need to be aware of the place where they were minted and when they were minted. You also need to know about the available mint marks and have a good comprehension of the coin finishes.

These coins are not meant for market distribution or trading but were created and issued only for collectors. The collectibles can be purchased directly from the US Mint.

Initially when the Silver Eagle coins were launched, collectors were allowed to buy only from certified coin dealers or the manufacturers of precious metals. However, later on collectors could purchase directly from the mint.

This is perhaps one of the most sought after silver eagle coins by collectors. The 1955 silver eagle is part of the first limited edition set of coins. The set also had the 1995-W Proof American Silver Eagle which was not available by itself in the market.

The one ounce American gold eagle combined with the half, quarter and tenth were also included in the set. The set was available in the market for less than a grand with only 125 sets minted in total.

The purity is guaranteed by the fact that the government certifies the collector through certification. These coins are filled onto the coin press manually by the minters and then they were pasted on special blanks which were burnished to create a unique mint mark for each coin.

With over one 130 million pieces circulating in the market since 1986 today the American Silver Eagle coin is a leading collectors item. It is globally recognized as the popular due to the fact that it is made of 100% pure silver guaranteed by the government.

Silver bullion coins The Many Uses of Silver

Silver is sometimes called the indispensable metal; because it is used for so many different purposes. Silver is used to make beautiful pieces of jewelry and for ornate silverware and serving pieces. Silver is also used for more practical purposes such as in electronics, batteries and in appliances.

Silver has unique chemical properties and is a catalyst that is used in many industrial processes. A catalyst is a substance that facilitates a chemical process. Heat is the world's most common catalyst that helps many processes take place, such as cooking food and baking in ovens.

More than 700 tons of silver is used yearly in the world's chemical industry to produce two compounds. They are ethylene oxide and formaldehyde which are both essential to the plastic industry. Ethylene oxide is the foundation for flexible plastics such as polyester, which is found in clothing. It is also used for molded items such as keyboards for computers and electrical control knobs. Ethylene oxide is also used to produce antifreeze coolant for vehicles. Formaldehyde is a chemical that is the building block for solid plastics including adhesives and particle board. It is also used in a variety of products including dinnerware, buttons and automotive parts.

Silver is an excellent electrical conductor and is used in many applications in electronics from printed circuit boards to TV screens. Silver touch switches are used in buttons on televisions, telephones, microwave ovens and computer keyboards. Silver is also used in conventional light switches like the ones found in your home.

Silver based inks and films are applied to printed circuit boards used in items such as computers and mobile phones. It is also used in antennas which are found in millions of products. Silver is also used to coat CDs and DVD's and is used in Plasma TVs and monitors.

You might be surprised to know that silver has anti bacterial powers. Silver interrupts a bacteria cell's ability to form chemical bonds which they need to survive. Silver prevents bacteria growth but is harmless to humans. Silver imbedded equipment is being used in hospitals for items such as surgical tools, needles, and stethoscopes to help prevent the spread of bacteria. One of the most promising silver applications is silver embedded bandages for burn and wound victims.

Silver when polished offers almost perfect reflectivity which makes it ideal for energy efficient windows. This type of coating reflects almost 95% of the hot rays of the sun. It is being widely used in double pane windows because it will save on household energy bills. Silver is being used in prescription sunglasses because it reflects harmful rays from the sun. Silver is also showing up in paint because of its anti bacterial properties that will help to stop fungus from growing and is germ free.

Now you should understand why silver is referred to as an indispensable metal. Silver has so many different and vital uses. Silver is used not only to make fine jewelry; it is also used in almost all industries. That is why recycling precious metals is important not only to the environment but to our way of life.

Silver bullion coins Selecting A Sterling Silver Celtic Ring

Five thousand year old designs from Celtic civilization have made its way to the modern sterling silver Celtic ring collection. The Celts as a whole were surrounded by a kind of mysticism which was totally puzzling.

The Celtic ornaments were generally symbolic and an important part of the Celtic traditions. The unique sterling silver Celtic rings worn by the modern generation today comes from the jewelry artists who design the rings drawing heavily from these early designs.

The stores have this most famous Celtic sterling silver ring. The ring consists of the well known Celtic knot symbolizing the age old civilization. The ring has a complicated design of Celtic knot which has a spiral impression upon it.

To add some shine to this typical Celtic ring a shining diamond has been set at its center. The width of the ring is 7mm and 2.0g is its weight.

This traditionally motivated Celtic ring is one of the hot favorites especially amongst those ladies whose men have gone overseas. The ribbon on the ring is supposed to serve as a constant reminder for the wearer regarding their commitment to their absent man.

The ring is designed with classic Celtic trinity love knot balancing it with a row of sparkling diamonds. The ring weighs about 2.0g

This classical Celtic ring is superbly stylish. The design on it features a complicated double trinity knot. The ring with its impressive style uses both gold and silver.

The combination actually works wonders and the whole ring comes across as a brilliant modern take on an ancient theme.

This pretty sterling silver Celtic ring features a simple silver brand which is decorated by the trinity knot shoulders. In the center the ring features an oval shaped agate. This agate is then surrounded by a cluster of eight cubic zirconias.

This special ring is supposed to be excellent with its trinity knot design. An arithmetical principle which shows no beginning and no end is used to design this ring. This particular Celtic symbol is assumed to signify the age old Celtic culture of triple Gods.

As we have seen the sterling silver Celtic rings are a ideal blend of contemporary and ancient culture which strongly believed in spiritualism and symbolism. If you wish to have something out of the ordinary the ring is a great choice.

Silver bullion coins Australian Silver Koala Coin Is A Silver Treasure

There are some coin collectors who are interested in accumulating a collection of silver bullion coins with exotic animals as their icons, to add to their treasured possessions. These collectors would find a true prize in the Australian Silver Koala issued by the Perth Mint of Western Australia.

This mintage is a follow-through of the highly successful introduction of the Australian Silver Kookaburra by the same mint in 1990 and the Australian Kangaroo in 1993 by the Royal Australian Mint. Having all three in coins should be a superb combination for a thematic animal-inspired silver bullion collection.

The Australian Silver Koala was first struck two years ago by the Pert Mint, which is famous for coins of excellent workmanship and innovative designs. The 1997 first year of mintage was an instant success as the koala whose image the coin bears is a well-loved creature the world over.

Numismatists of course will tell you that it would be erroneous to call this coin as the "Australian Silver Koala Bear," although there is a certain rhyme to this term. The koala is scientifically classified under the genus Phascolarctos, which is rooted from the Greek word "phaskolos," for pouch, and the misleading "arktos," for bear. The koala, however, is a marsupial, an arboreal or tree-dwelling animal found only in the tropical forests of Australia.

The jungle, nonetheless, is no place for the Australian Silver Koala, but would be more at home at some treasure chests. This collectors delight is a 1-oz coin made from 99.9% pure silver in a koala design that changes each year.

The latest edition has the image of a young koala clinging to a tree branch. The Perth Mint struck the 2008 mintage of the coin with a different design which features that of a mother koala perched on a tree with a baby Phascolarctos at her back.

This 2008 mintage has, in addition to the silver standard, a gold coin edition. This firmly establishes that there are, indeed, plenty of treasures to be found Down Under!
